ABSTRACT

Evaluating nursing students' cognitive control and flexibility levels during the COVID-19 pandemic may be the first step in increasing their ability to cope with the pandemic and reducing their anxiety. The main purpose of this study is to determine the relationships between cognitive control and flexibility and anxiety in the times of the COVID-19 pandemic in nursing students. The study was conducted with 275 nursing students. Data were collected using an information form, the Cognitive Control and Flexibility Questionnaire (CCFQ) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 Scale (GAD-7). According to the results of the research, the participants mean Cognitive Control and Flexibility Questionnaire and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 scores were found as 84.40±14.81, 7.86±4.66, respectively. There was a negative significant relationship between the mean CCFQ, and GAD-7 scores. The male had significantly higher the cognitive control over emotion sub-dimension of the CCFQ scores, while female had significantly higher the GAD-7 Scale. In the study, it was concluded that there was a negative significant relationship between the cognitive control and flexibility levels of the students and their generalized anxiety levels. It can be suggested that interventions to increase the cognitive control and flexibility levels of nursing students and nurses to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic. © 2022 The Author(s).

ABSTRACT

Background: Vaccines against coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) are important to control the current pandemic. Misinformation, lack of awareness, and beliefs about vaccines can cause hesitations about vaccines and affect the rate of vaccination. We aimed to reveal the vaccination rates against COVID-19 (vaccine type and dose), and the reasons for not being vaccinated in patients admitted to the immunology and allergy outpatient clinic. In addition, we aimed to find out whether allergic reactions were observed in vaccinated patients. Method(s): The history of COVID-19 and vaccination of patients admitted to the Immunology and Allergy Outpatient Clinic between December 2021 and February 2022 were evaluated retrospectively. Result(s): In our study, which included 451 patients, the median age of the patients was 35 (range 18-82), and 61.2% were women. 16.9% of the patients admitted to the immunology and allergy outpatient clinic were never vaccinated, while the rate of those who did not receive two doses of vaccine was 26.6%. The top three reasons for not being vaccinated were fear of allergies, fear of adverse effects, and distrust of the vaccine, respectively. Unvaccinated patients were younger, which is statistically significant. Vaccination rate was found to be lower in drug allergy and immunodeficiencies compared to other disease groups. The rate of vaccination of at least 2 doses in the allergic rhinitis group was significantly higher than those without allergic rhinitis. Conclusion(s): Fear of allergies, fear of advers effects, and distrust of the vaccine reduce the rate of vaccination. Understanding the causes of vaccine hesitations and increasing the vaccination rate by organizing public health campaigns is an important point in the control of the pandemic. Despite being rare, allergic reactions can be observed with COVID-19 vaccines. Therefore, immunologists and allergists play an important role in the COVID-19 vaccine program.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Compliance to a prophylactic therapy provides decreased bleeding rates in patients with haemophilia. During covid 19 pandemic, reaching and managing the health system has been a challenge for all over the world. It seems that these days are more difficult for hemophilia patients. The health policy recommend to need to avoid face to face communications if not certainly necessary for patients. It has become hard to admit out-patient clinics routinely and also emergency room for bleeding attacks for hemophilia patients. Aim: To evaluate adherence in adult patients with severe or moderate haemophilia under prophylactic treatment in a pandemic-life setting. Methods: This cross-sectional study, including 104 adult hemophilia patients receiving factor therapy in 5 Turkish centres. Participants rated the relevance of the single items of the VERITAS-PRO on a 5-point Likert scale and answered various questionnaires to assess their therapy beliefs. Also some information on their inspection file like this annual bleeding rate, age, diagnosis, target joint, etc. were used for study. Self-perceived adherence was compared versus the VERITAS-Pro questionnaire. The relationship between adherence rate and treatment, clinical and demographic characteristics was investigated. VERITAS pro questionnaire contains a total of six subscales with four items. Lower scores reflect higher adherence. Results: 104 adult patients with severe (72,5 %) and moderate (27,5 %) haemophilia receiving prophylaxis were eligible for the study. Median age was 38 years (range 18-69). Mean adherence rate of VERITAS pro total score was 38,16±12,06 (min: 22- max: 98) and this showed that 92 % of participant had treatment adherence. There was lower, significant and negative correlation between self-perceived degree of adherence and score of VERITAS -pro (Rho: -0,391 p<0,01). 43% of patients infused factor concantrate when he was suitable. Only 43,7 % of patient infused the factor concentrate at right time, in other words when starting the day. Discussion/Conclusion: VERITAS-Pro which is a valid and reliable instrument confirmed with different data from different countries. We have previously reported its Turkish version and our new multicenter study showed its usefullnes during pandemic of covid 19.
